Portrait commissions - Frequently Asked Questions...
How do I book a commission?
Send me a message on the contact form with your idea. We can then discuss your subject, size, and composition before confirming your booking.
Once we’ve agreed on the details, you’ll receive a simple confirmation and deposit request to secure your slot.
How do I send the reference image?
Email or text works well. Please send a clear, high-resolution photo — the more detail you provide, the more lifelike your final portrait will be.
If you’re unsure which photo works best, I’m happy to help you choose.
Can you work from multiple photos?
Yes, absolutely. I can combine elements from different images — for example, two people from separate photos, or a person and a pet.
We’ll confirm the layout before I begin so you know exactly what to expect.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes, a 50% deposit secures your booking. The remaining balance is due upon completion, before shipping.
Will I see progress photos?
Yes — I’ll send a couple of progress updates during the process so you can watch your drawing take shape.
Can I request changes during the process?
Minor adjustments can be discussed as I work.
Major changes however might be more challenging, but will do my best.
How long does a commission take?
Most commissions take up to four weeks to complete.
If you have a special date or deadline, please let me know — I’ll always do my best to meet this.
How will my artwork be delivered?
Artwork is shipped via tracked courier (£10 within the UK).
International delivery is available — costs and delivery times vary depending on location.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, I ship worldwide. Every piece is securely packaged to ensure it arrives safely and in perfect condition.
Will the drawing be framed?
Framing is optional. For £30, I can frame your portrait in a plain black frame and a white mount — all ready to display.
Can I order it unframed?
Of course! Unframed drawings are carefully rolled and shipped in a protective tube to keep them safe in transit.
What materials do you use?
I use professional-grade charcoal on professional archival, acid-free paper, ensuring your artwork is long-lasting and gallery-quality.
Do you sign your artwork?
Yes — each piece is signed on the front, and titled and dated on the back.
How should I care for my drawing?
Keep your drawing out of direct sunlight and handle it gently to avoid smudging.
If unframed, store it flat or in its protective tube until you’re ready to frame it.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes! Gift vouchers are available for any amount.
Can you create drawings of pets or couples?
Absolutely — I regularly create portraits of pets, couples, and families. Just mention what you have in mind when enquiring.
Do you offer digital versions of the finished artwork?
Yes, I can provide a high-resolution digital scan of your finished drawing at no extra cost for personal use (such as sharing online or printing).
Who owns the copyright to the artwork?
As the artist, I retain the copyright, but you receive full personal use rights to your commissioned portrait.
If you’d like to reproduce it commercially (for example, on merchandise), please contact me for licensing options.
Can I request a custom size?
Yes! I’m happy to discuss bespoke sizes or concepts to suit your vision and space.
